What is TMJ? Why, your temporomandibular joint, of course. Here is the clinical definition:
"The temporomandibular joint is frequently referred to as TMJ. The TMJ is a bilateral synovial articulation between the mandible and temporal bone. The name of the joint is derived from the two bones which form the joint: the upper temporal bone which is part of the cranium (skull), and the lower jawbone or mandible."
What is TMJ, the simple answer.
That's a little hard for people to process. TMJ, put simply, is your jaw joint. It can affect a lot of things:
•
How you chew.
•
Headaches.
•
The wear on your teeth.
•
How you sleep.
Our bones and muscles are not perfect and can have small deviations that don't affect how you live. Sometimes these deviations are significant enough to cause problems.
