What is Aligner Therapy?Aligner therapy is designed to give you more freedom as you have your teeth straightened, and more control over the final outcome. A set of custom trays, or aligners, are made for your teeth, and are worn in succession until your teeth are straightened. Each aligner shifts some of your teeth in tiny increments over a period of three weeks or so, then the next aligner in the set is worn. These aligners are designed with the use of 3D computer imaging.
How Do Aligners Work?The most important part of aligner therapy is the 3D image of your teeth. Our sophisticated software will take that image and use it to create a dynamic treatment plan, designing each aligner to move your teeth in increments until the final result is achieved. You can see each step of the aligning process, and you will be able to view an accurate 3D image of how your teeth will look after the final aligner before the process ever begins.
The aligners themselves work to move teeth in much the same way that braces do - with properly applied force on certain areas of your teeth. However, the use of computer imaging allows aligners to apply that force more effectively, and in well-timed stages. Rather than putting force on all of the teeth at once, aligners gently move only certain teeth at certain stages, so the entire straightening process is more comfortable, more efficient, and more effective.
ClearCorrect Aligner TherapyAt La Jolla Dental, we use the brand ClearCorrect for our aligner therapy patients. ClearCorrect aligners are removable, comfortable, and virtually undetectable. They are made of a hard, medical-grade plastic and look a lot like teeth whitening trays. Unlike other trays, however, these are custom-made to fit your teeth using imaging technology, which is even more accurate than the impressions or molds that some dental treatments utilize.
ClearCorrect's removable aligners make maintaining oral health much easier than with braces. Because you can take your aligner out to eat, brush, and floss, then put it back in, you don't have to worry about food getting caught in it. There are no wires or metal brackets to irritate the inside of your mouth, and no dental visits to have your braces tightened or adjusted. Simply switch from one aligner in your set to the next when your dentist gives you the go-ahead, and continue having your teeth straightened comfortably and invisibly.
